Noam Shalit, father of recently released Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit, today criticized Egyptian television, adding that his son was obliged to go on Egyptian TV after his release.

Gilad suffered his first year in jail, Shalit said. After a year and a half he was allowed to participate in some activities and follow Israeli radio.

Gilad was detained for five years.

Noam also confirmed that the Israeli bombing of the Gaza Strip was close to the prison where Gilad was being held.

“My son’s health is good,” Noam said, adding that “he eats regularly, but cannot sleep well; military aides are monitoring Gilad.”

He added that Gilad has not been exposed to sunlight in years.
