Salafis and the Muslim Brotherhood will boycott the “National Unity Iftar” for Sunday in Imbaba’s St. Mina Church, said Salafi leader Medhat Amar.

Iftar is the meal when Muslims break their fast during Ramadan.

Amar said the main reason for the boycott is the involvement of Abanoub Gad al-Kareem, the priest who invited parties to the Iftar. Amar said the priest’s brothers were involved in sectarian violence that rocked Imbaba in May.

Amar said that boycotting the national unity Iftar does not mean that the MB and Salafis boycott Christians. He added that if the invitation came from any other person it would be accepted, saying that there are cordial relations between Muslims and Christians in Imbaba.

Giza Governorate announced that Governor Ali Abdel-Rahman will attend with a number of governorate officials.
