Pope Shenouda III, head of Egypt’s Coptic Christian Church, will visit Al-Azhar, Egypt’s highest Sunni authority, once he returns from the United States.

St. Mark Cathedral is waiting for the pope’s return to form a delegation to visit Al-Azhar and congratulate Grand Imam Ahmed al-Tayeb for Eid el-Fitr, the three-day feast that follows the Islamic hold month of Ramadan. Eid began yesterday.

The delegation will also visit Egypt’s ruling military council for the same reason.

In related news, Bishop Markos said the medical tests the pope underwent in the U.S. proved that the pope is in good health. Markos said the pope will return to Egypt within a week and will then lead the Coptic delegation to Al-Azhar.
