Released prisoner: we were worried about Israeli deception

GAZA: Abdul Rahman Shehab, 42, today told his story about his detainment in Israeli prison and his recent release to Gaza.

“We were worried about Israeli deception; we expected to be returned at any time to prison,” Shehab said. “But we felt that the swap was genuine when we passed through the Rafah Crossing to Egypt.”

“We received the list of those to be released before the prison administrators had it,” he continued, adding that the list of those to be released were worried that Israel would delay the deal.

The lists were obtained through mobile phones, which some prisoners had been using secretly.

Shehab spent 23 years in an Israeli prison. He was arrested during the first Palestinian uprising (Intifada).

“The prison administration gathered together those who were to be released in the morning of Sunday, October 16; we were then transferred to the Karam Abu Salem border crossing,” said Shehab.

“We were surprised when the Egyptian soldiers searched us at the border crossing,” he added.
