The Catholic Church today released a statement warning against the passage of the Unifying the Houses of Worship Law, claiming that all sects of the Christian faith must review, revise and consent to it.The Church expressed its rejection of eight articles in the project and suggested adding two items as well as a few amendments.
Patriarch Anba Antonios Naguib demanded that an article stipulating the provisions of the law be applied to new buildings and renovation be included, an article that has so far not been added to the new Law.
The Church also demanded that the law be approved with the consent of the Chairman of the religious sect, not the approval of the competent official in the religious community.
The suggestions also included a demand that the distance between houses of worship not be too small.
