Obama sees tight races, urges turnout
The Republican ticket, meanwhile, planned to spend a second straight day Sunday on a Downstate swing, where turnout will be vital to offset the one-sided advantage Democrats expect to gain in Chicago and suburban Cook County.
Senate candidate Mark Kirk and gubernatorial candidate Bill Brady scheduled stops in Moline, Quincy, Sycamore and Peoria before finishing the day at a get-out-the-vote rally at Joe’s Bar on Weed Street in Old Town, where the candidates were to be joined by U.S. Sen. Scott Brown (R-Mass.).
Asked at Valois how he feels about his side’s chances Tuesday, Obama said, “I feel great, we’ve got good turnout. Pat’s gonna win, Alexi’s going to win. That’s why turnout is so important. We’ve seen a lot of enthusiasm, but it’s going to be tight. These are close races. It’s true here. It’s true in Ohio. It’s true in every state where we’re competing. And obviously, the other side is enthusiastic. We’ve got to make sure our side is too.”
